Exploring Life & Business with Jeremy “JB” Yowell of ALG Holdings Family

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy “JB” Yowell.

Hi Jeremy, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
JB Yowell is all about being in the people business. My story is pretty simple. I was always an ambitious-minded person, a little too smart for my own good, and one of those know-it-all kids. I struggled in high school and barely graduated with a 2.7 GPA. I found myself freshly graduated and wanted to jump into the workspace. I picked up odd jobs here and there, and then I walked into a guy who was a telemarketing manager. I said if you give me a shot, I’ll work for free and if I deliver and hit goals you place in front of me, I want to be the manager. He gave me 2 weeks, and I learned and crafted a creative pitch on how to sell drop shipping websites for sites like Amazon and raised $100,000 a month. From there, I built an entire sales floor, then somewhere along the line, a guy I used to work with told me about an oil and gas company. I moved into that world and became a multi-million-dollar producer, then started my own company called Yohawk Energy which I sold in 2016. After that, I took that money and those assets and decided that I would get involved in a variety of different companies. My friend and business partner Jamie Kinser and I started Blue-Knight Agency, which was a full-service marketing company, which morphed into the Firecracker Agency. After a couple years of doing that, I decided I want to buy businesses that existed that presented opportunities to be scalable and had a legacy brand attached to it. I formed ALG Holdings Family, which is named after my kids, and decided to be an acquisition entrepreneur. I bought into a friend of mine’s business called Freaky Fast Homebuyers, then I started an oil company with another friend called Kroh Exploration that drills oil wells. After that, I bought my first legacy brand which is Perrotti’s Pizza back in early 2021. We bought it and rebranded it, increased operations, marketed it, and have nearly doubled sales. We’re currently expanding about to open our second location and plan for more after that. I’m also a partner in Hyena’s Comedy Club, and some delis, and we also own the Perk coffee chain in New York City, and several other ventures. My ultimate goal for ALG Holdings Family is to be managing over 1 billion dollars assets under management, and I want everyone that works for me to benefit from it and to have a piece of the pie!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
There’s been a lot of failures and life lessons along the way, and you take those and grow upon those and that gets you to where I am today. I was young and impulsive when I started my own businesses. I thought I knew what I was doing and I didn’t. I lost a lot of money and had to pick myself up off the ground, dust off, and reset many times. Some of the struggles have been just learning business, as well as learning who NOT to do business with. Doing due diligence is extremely important. My biggest struggles have been being too trusting and too impulsive in the past. Luckily, I have surrounded myself with a phenomenal team who helps me temper those things and we have a big collective mind that makes it work.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
ALG Holdings Family is an ambitious venture. Our superpowers are operations and marketing. We’re a company that is comprised of a lot of talent and integrity-based people. ALG prides itself in paying our employees what they’re worth and offering incentive plans to keep them on board. You’ve got to pay people what they’re worth, and you’ve got to make it so good that they can’t go anywhere else and we’re big believers in giving our employees a percentage of each business we buy. The ALG way is that we truly care about the people we work with. We really are a company that is all about our employees and partners!

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory was growing up with such a loving family. My dad and mom both showed us that love and warmth was more important than finances. I’d say I grew up in a household that was middle-class and that my father did not aspire to be a business person nor did my mom. However,  they showed me that no matter what kind of status you have in life, that nothing really matters other than the love you have from your friends, family and those close to you. I am very blessed to have been raised in a very loving household of which money and success didn’t matter at the slightest. I suppose that has been my driving-force behind the philosophy of giving back to all employees that work tirelessly my brands. I want them all to feel valued and rewarded.
